West Virginia University (WVU) has made the decision to cancel in-person classes and shift most employees to remote work on Monday, January 26th, due to the ongoing Winter Storm Fern. This proactive measure ensures the safety of the university community and follows guidance from Monongalia County emergency officials, who urge people to stay off area roads during the storm.
The university's Winter Storm Fern response includes the following key points:
- All in-person classes and operations on the Morgantown Campus will be canceled.
- Employees with the option to work remotely or on a hybrid schedule are advised to continue their normal schedules remotely and not travel to campus.
- Essential on-site employees should communicate with their supervisors to determine their work requirements during the closure.
- Online classes are not affected by this decision.
WVU Health Sciences faculty, staff, and students working in patient care areas or clinical rotations should check with their respective leaders for specific instructions. All WVU Dental clinics will be closed. The parking shuttle service for HSC employees from the WVU Innovation Corporation to the Health Sciences area will not operate on Monday.
Facilities Management continues snow removal efforts on campus and collaborates with off-campus crews from the West Virginia Division of Highways, Monongalia County, and the City of Morgantown.
The university's dining facilities, scheduled to open on Monday, will operate with limited hours to meet student and community needs. The WVU Visitors Center will also be closed.
WVU Institute of Technology and WVU Potomac State College have previously announced closures for the same day, while WVU Extension will follow its internal inclement weather policy.
WVU Alerts are part of the university's three-tiered emergency notification system, ensuring that necessary updates are communicated through various channels, including the WVU Safety Notification System, MIX email, students.wvu.edu, ENews email, and social media accounts.
