Why 'Ponies' is TV's Must-See New Spy Drama (2026)

Emilia Clarke's New Spy Thriller, 'Ponies,' is a Hit! But is it really better than the final season of Game of Thrones? Let's dive in.

Yesterday's headlines were buzzing with Emilia Clarke's interview with The New York Times, where she didn't hold back about her character's less-than-stellar ending in Game of Thrones. However, the interview was actually a clever way to promote her new series on Peacock, called Ponies. And, spoiler alert, it's already making waves!

Ponies boasts a fantastic 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The show, which dropped as an eight-episode binge, stars Clarke alongside Haley Lu Richardson of The White Lotus fame. The series is co-created by David Iserson, known for his work on Mr. Robot and Mad Men, and Susanna Fogel, who produced The Wilds and The Flight Attendant. Here's what Ponies is all about:

Set in 1977 Moscow, the story revolves around two women working as secretaries in the American Embassy, known as "PONIES" in intelligence jargon. Their lives take a dramatic turn when their husbands mysteriously die in the Soviet Union, thrusting them into the world of the CIA. Bea Grant, a sharp, Russian-speaking child of immigrants, is trying to make sense of her life. Twila Hasbeck is a bold, fearless woman from a small town. Together, they unravel a vast conspiracy.

Ponies marks Emilia Clarke's return to a high-profile role since 2023's Secret Invasion, the Marvel series where her character's fate was... well, let's just say it was a bit of a letdown. But don't let that deter you; Ponies is a fresh start!

Haley Lu Richardson, on the other hand, is on a roll. She's fresh off her role in The White Lotus season 2 and has starred in Love at First Sight. She's also in the sci-fi film Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die, which has a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score. Critics are raving about the chemistry between Richardson and Clarke. Collider praised the show's "compelling writing and striking performances," calling it "one of the most impressive new shows of 2026."

But here's where it gets controversial... While Peacock has a smaller audience than other streaming giants, it still produces some great content. Could Ponies be the show that puts Peacock on the map?

What do you think? Are you excited to watch Ponies? Let me know in the comments! Do you agree with the critics, or do you have a different take? I'm eager to hear your thoughts!
