Tanzania's TRITA: Tackling Migration Challenges and Building Capacity (2025)

TRITA, the Regional Immigration Training Academy, is tackling Tanzania's migration challenges head-on. The fifth Migration Management Workshop, held in Mwanza, is a prime example of their efforts. The event aims to foster knowledge exchange and address the complex issues surrounding immigration management.

The workshop's agenda is comprehensive, focusing on policy and legal challenges that hinder investment activities. By identifying these obstacles, participants will develop actionable recommendations to support the government's efforts through the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Immigration Department. This collaborative approach is crucial for Tanzania's growth and development.

Miriam Mmbaga, Director of Administration and Human Resources from the Ministry of Home Affairs, graced the opening session as the guest of honor. She highlighted the importance of TRITA's training programs, particularly certificate-level courses, in building Tanzania's professional capacity in immigration matters. These courses empower Tanzanians to contribute to the country's immigration expertise.

The workshop's attendees included Immigration Commissioners, regional immigration officers, immigration experts, and stakeholders from both within and outside the country. This diverse group brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, fostering a rich environment for discussion and learning.

Gerald Kihinga, Commissioner of Immigration for the Passport Division, delivered the Commissioner General's remarks. He emphasized the Immigration Department's commitment to operational reforms, particularly the adoption of digital systems in service delivery. This transformation has significantly improved efficiency, transparency, and citizen satisfaction while reducing opportunities for corruption.

The workshop's impact extends beyond its duration. By encouraging participants to learn, deliberate, and propose positive recommendations, TRITA is empowering Tanzania's immigration system. This collaborative effort will contribute to a more efficient, transparent, and effective immigration process, benefiting both Tanzanians and visitors alike.
