The ruling, delivered by Judge Cristina Silva, prevents Ortiz and his manager from negotiating with any third parties for a fight, including the eagerly awaited bout with Ennis, until an arbitration process is completed. Silva has requested a swift resolution, aiming for a settlement by September, but Ortiz hopes for an earlier conclusion to get back in the ring.

The dispute between Golden Boy and Ortiz has been brewing for months. When a deal to face Ennis fell through, Ortiz took legal action, seeking to terminate his contract with Golden Boy and claiming breach of contract and interference with prospective economic opportunities.
Golden Boy responded with a temporary restraining order (TRO) in February, aiming to prevent Ortiz from pursuing fights outside their promotional control. Ortiz's attempt to dismiss the TRO was rejected by Judge Silva, leading to the upcoming arbitration hearing.
