Makerere College School Alumni: New Constitution, New Opportunities (2026)

A bold move by Makerere College School alumni has put lawyer Dennis Ssembuya at the helm of their association, MACOSA, as they embrace a new constitution. This decision, made at their annual dinner in Kampala, reflects a commitment to strengthening their community and supporting each other's growth.

But here's where it gets interesting: Ssembuya, in his address, highlighted the pivotal role of technology, especially Artificial Intelligence, in shaping the future. He emphasized the need for students to stay ahead of the curve, suggesting that robotics and AI, though not yet part of the curriculum, should be introduced to ensure their relevance in the job market.

Ssembuya's vision includes a digital drive to provide 600 computers and two staff buses, aiming for a one-to-one student-computer ratio. He believes this will not only enhance the learning experience but also facilitate better transportation between the school's campuses in Makerere and Mulawa.

And this is the part most people miss: the benefits of being a MACOSA member. Ssembuya and Joyce Nabaggala Kikomeko, a fellow MACOSA member and former Mothers' Union leader, both highlighted the opportunities the association provides. From internship placements in member-owned companies to the acquisition of land for the school's expansion, MACOSA is making a tangible impact on its alumni's lives and the school's future.

So, what do you think? Is this a step towards a brighter future for Makerere College School alumni? Or is there a potential downside to this technological focus that we should consider? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
