LIV Golf Adelaide: Anthony Kim's Emotional Triumph After 12-Year Absence
In 2008, Anthony Kim made history as the youngest American under 25 to win two PGA Tour events in a single year, following in the footsteps of Tiger Woods. But his journey to this momentous victory in Adelaide was a testament to resilience and perseverance.
At just 23 years old, Kim was a key player on the United States' victorious Ryder Cup team, securing two and a half points from four matches, contributing significantly to Europe's defeat at Valhalla. However, his path to this triumph in Adelaide was far from straightforward.
Starting the final round five shots behind overnight leaders Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, Kim's determination and skill came to the fore. He sank an impressive nine birdies in a single round of 63, securing the top spot on the leaderboard with an astonishing 23 under par at Grange Golf Club.
Rahm, despite a decent performance with two birdies and a bogey, finished with a 71, three shots behind Kim at 20 under. DeChambeau, while also carding two birdies and four bogeys, couldn't match Kim's final-round 74, leaving him at 17 under, alongside Peter Uihlein (68) and Tyrell Hatton (67).
Emotional and overwhelmed, Kim expressed his gratitude, saying, 'It's been overwhelming, but I'm never not going to fight for my family. God gave me a talent, and I knew it was coming. Nobody else has to believe in me but me. For anyone struggling, you can get through anything.'
