Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola was left fuming after his team's goalless draw with Brentford, as they were denied a clear penalty that could have changed the course of the game. The match at Vitality Stadium saw Bournemouth extend their unbeaten run to nine Premier League games, but Iraola was not happy with the officials' decision to not award a spot-kick to his side.
In a post-match interview, Iraola expressed his frustration, stating, 'There is a clear penalty. It is impossible not to give. I cannot accept it.' The incident occurred in the first half when Marcus Tavernier stretched to reach a cross, and it appeared that he was fouled by a Brentford defender. However, referee Craig Pawson waved away Bournemouth's appeals.
Bournemouth had several other chances to break the deadlock, with Tavernier hitting the post twice and Evanilson having a goal disallowed for offside. The draw means Bournemouth remain winless in their last eight Premier League games against Brentford, a record that Iraola is keen to break.
'It isn't acceptable. I am even more angry if they decide after watching the replays it isn't enough. I am much more angry,' Iraola added. The result sees Bournemouth move up to ninth place in the table, while Brentford remain in seventh position. But here's where it gets controversial...
