Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun confirmed China's backing when questioned about Malaysia's application. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had previously voiced his support during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.
Guo Jiakun emphasized that BRICS is a vital platform for collaboration among emerging markets and developing nations. He highlighted its role in driving global multipolarization – essentially, shifting away from a unipolar world – and promoting the democratization of international relations. This approach has garnered significant support from the Global South.
"BRICS values the active willingness of Global South partners to participate in BRICS cooperation and welcomes Malaysia and more like-minded partners to join in BRICS cooperation, working together to promote the development of the international order in a more just and reasonable direction," Guo stated.
